Buying Sheets and Blankets
While many parents now prefer baby sleeping bags for newborn babies, many still start off with cotton sheets and cotton cellular blankets, which is perfectly fine as well. Some of the advantages of sheets and blankets over sleeping bags are that they are easy to layer and therefore help keep your baby at the right temperature, as you can add or take away blankets if your baby is too hot or too cold.
The best sheets to use are made from traditional woven cotton, stretch cotton terry, cotton jersey, or brushed flannelette, which feels warm and soft to touch. Sometimes it is useful to get stretch fitted sheets as they are less likely to become untucked while your baby sleeps. Also, they are quick and easy to put on and take off, which may make life simpler for you.
For particularly cold bedrooms acrylic cellular blankets are a good option. Acrylic cellular blankets wash well, which is another advantage. When buying blankets, it is important for you to check if they can be machine washed. Many traditional wool blankets can be washed easily, as well as polyester and fleece, which are particularly useful for use in the pram on a cold day, as they are especially warm, although they may be too hot for a regular night in the cot.
